&lt;p&gt;I was going for the general idea that death never lets you rest, or at least, Liseli's idea of a terrible death is never resting, always running, so in her nightmare of being dead she's constantly being pushed, pulled, and chased from one death to another.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;I love these lines:&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;i&gt;She feasted on the maze that was the spider, and then she was the spider, and she was washed down a drain, never, never, never to be seen from again&lt;/i&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;and&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;i&gt;And then she was not a girl, but a rock, and Liseli was kneeling by that rock in the midst of a field of boulders in the gray night.&#160; &lt;/i&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;The imagery is amazing.&lt;/p&gt;
